Winnipeg East Female Hockey

HOCKEY WINNIPEG DIRECTIVE – DECEMBER 15 2020

Hockey Winnipeg and its member Minor Hockey Associations are committed to providing quality hockey programs in 2021, in a manner that is safe and responsible.  Hockey Winnipeg is currently planning a number of different approaches to hockey in 2021 with the goal of implementation under various levels of restrictions that may be in place from the Manitoba Provincial Government.  Once hockey receives approval to re-enter return to play and Hockey Winnipeg receives approval from our governing bodies – Hockey Manitoba and Sport Manitoba – we will return to the ice as soon as is reasonably possible.  While we do not know what the next few weeks hold, it is our intention to begin this program implementation as soon as possible following the lifting of restrictions.

Hockey Winnipeg would like to remind our members that the health and safety of our entire community is of the greatest importance at this time.  By complying with the current restrictions we can all play a part in the return of hockey and many other valuable activities.  Over the next few weeks outdoor hockey rinks and frozen lakes will be available for use. We encourage everyone to be physically active but must remind our members that organized team activities on these surfaces are strictly prohibited by public health orders.  Any violation of the Public Health Act and specifically Order #12 (or any other relevant orders) will not only result in enforcement from the Province of Manitoba but Hockey Winnipeg may take additional disciplinary action as well.

Hockey Winnipeg would like to wish all of our members a Merry Christmas, a safe holiday season and a Happy New Year.  We look forward to dropping the puck in 2021!

Ian McArton

Executive Director, Hockey Winnipeg

Hockey Paused

In light of the recent news from the Provincial Health Authorities and Winnipeg moving to code Red restrictions Monday, WEFH believes it is in the best interest of our players, coaches, parents, friends, neighbours that we proactively take measures and suspend our program effective immediately.

While we all hoped that this day wouldn't come, we expect everyone to act with all of Manitoba's best interests in mind.

We look forward to the announcement that we are resuming the season's activities once things are under control with the pandemic.

Sincerely,

Teri Moffatt and Jacquie Sippola

Message from Hockey Winnipeg

From Hockey Winnipeg:

Good Afternoon,

I have been inundated with questions about the new directive from Dr. Roussin and Manitoba Health that is set to take effect on Monday.  I have spoken to Peter Woods at Hockey Manitoba who is following up with the Province to get a definitive answer regarding sanctioned hockey programs. I should have that information at some point today and I will share it with you all as soon as I can.

For the time being, sanctioned hockey activities are good to continue.  It is important that we are adhering to the guidelines this weekend.  Masks must be worn at all times.  Pre-screening is essential. Players must adhere to the guidelines of arrival and departure times. Sanitization and distancing practices are vital.  Players need to be arriving with as much equipment on as possible to limit time in the dressing rooms. 1 parent per participant should be the standard.

As soon as I have additional information from Hockey Manitoba regarding the impact of this directive I will pass it on to all of you.

Regards,

Ian McArton

Executive Director, Hockey Winnipeg

Saints times

Saints tryouts

This is very important- ALL players and 1 spectator allowed only per player, need to do online COVID screen on Notre Dame website PRIOR to 1 pm EACH DAY in order to facilitate players entering building as quickly as possible. We will get the staff at Notre Dame to kindly look up players before so they can enter more quickly.

link: https://www.ndrc.ca/covid-19

Everyone entering the building is required to wear a mask, sanitze hands and follow any arrows or signs. There are marked places in dressing rooms and in stands. Please follow physical distancing.

Players will wear masks in dressing rooms until they put on helmets.

Notre Dame policies

There is no tolerance rule for any abuse of staff or volunteers. The rules have been put in place to keep us as safe and healthy as possible and to allow sports to happen during a global pandemic. We all need to be patient and kind as everyone returns to the rink!

Final Saints team will be posted ASAP after final skate on Wednesday.

Preseason IP Skates

We are pleased to announce that our IP skates will be happening starting next week. These are a chance to get on the ice a few times before Stars evaluations to shake off any rust that might have accumulated over the break.

These are totally optional, you have to register, and cost is $75 for 3 skates.

Registration will open at noon on Saturday, September 12th and in the past have filled very fast.

Link to registration:  https://www.wefh.ca/registrations

There is a maximum number of players on ice so we will have 2 groups for the U9-U13 ages (novice to peewee).

Ice is in!

We have received our ice for Saints tryouts, IP skates and Stars Evaluations!

Registration for U13 and U15 Saints Tryouts are open in Registration tab. First round skates start Saturday, Sept. 12th. You will be emailed which of 2 times you skate on Friday.

U18 Saints tryout format and dates have yet to be determined. That information will be posted as soon as it is available.

Registration for IP skates will open Saturday at noon (changed from Friday as some people do not have access at work) as skates start Monday, Sept. 15th for some ages.

Emails will be sent to everyone who is registered at SBMHA and TMHA. If you have not registered, please do so ASAP.

Stars Evaluations are scheduled for Sept. 26/27 AND Oct. 3/4. Times will be posted here later this week and groups will be emailed out the week before.

Update

Thank-you for your patience as we try and navigate through this uncharted territory. We know it feels like you should have more information than you do at this point, and we feel exactly the same way!

What we do know is that Hockey MB has approved a Return to Play Plan, that you should have received via email. In this plan we are allowed to resume some hockey but with restrictions, and this will likely be the case this season. The restrictions may continually be adjusted so we will have to be flexible and work within the guidelines that are being implemented to keep us all safe and healthy as we resume sport in a global pandemic.

We are busy securing ice to host our Saints tryouts, our pre-season skates and Stars evaluations. These will likely still happen in September and early October but we aren't 100% sure of when yet. There will also be group size restrictions, so they will look a little different this year. As soon as we have the dates I will post them here and I will email everyone to let you know what is happening.

We do not have a timeline of when games might start yet, but it is unlikely that it will be before November 1st.

If you haven't already registered, please do so in your area:

St. Boniface Minor Hockey Association

Transcona Minor Hockey Association

We look forward to seeing you back in the rink!

Inspiring quote for all athletes

“True sportsmanship is…

Knowing that you need your opponent because without him or her, there is no game.

Acknowledging that your opponent holds the same deep-rooted aspirations and expectations as you.

Knowing that, win or lose, you will walk off the course with pride.

Always taking the high road.

And always, always, always being a good sport.”
