About Winnipeg East Female Hockey
Who We Are
The Winnipeg East Female Hockey (WEFH) council (new name as of June 2014, formally St. Boniface Female Hockey Committee) is responsible for organizing, promoting and advancing the female minor ice hockey program in St. Boniface and Transcona.
The committee is comprised of a chair (St. Boniface Female Hockey Convener), vice chair (Transcona Female Hockey Convener), registrar, treasurer, secretary, equipment chair, and Stars Cup tournament chair. The commitee also includes a position responsible for AA programs (PeeWee, Bantam and Midget) and age convenors. Additionally members from the various hockey teams assist in the preparation and execution of the Stars Cup tournament (held in late March) and other initiatives.
What We Do
Each year, the council supports our players through several initiatives made possible by past committee volunteers. Our funding comes from prior year initiatives such as the Stars Cup tournament and the Stars raffle. ALL funding goes back into the female program through the following initiatives and events:
- we have enough jerseys (home & away) for each player with our own Stars/ Saints logo. Our Female Hockey Program has the same look from Novice to Midget.
- each player receives hockey socks
- each team has options for goalie development
- Our season-ending hockey tournament is known as the Stars Cup. We have teams from Ontario, Saskatchewan and rural Manitoba that travel to play in this competitive tournament.
The Stars Cup tournament meets several objectives. It is a great opportunity for our teams to have a final chance to play together after the playoffs. It is a chance to play against teams from outside the City of Winnipeg. And it is a very competitive tournament. Through this tournament and the pre-season camps, we endeavor to provide opportunities to develop our players.
